Health and Safety Audit

  • Would you hire an office junior to audit your accounts?

  • Do you want a tick box audit or real added value to your business?

  • Do you care if your people go home safe every day?

A health and safety audit is not just a tick box tool. It is a critical document that provides an analysis of how your business is performing.

Any auditor, from any discipline, should approach your business with professional skepticism.

What is a Health and Safety Audit?

An experienced and qualified health and safety auditor will attend to your business and assess you against a pre-determined ‘standard’ or ‘system’ for health and safety management.

There are many different types of health and safety management systems available to be audited against.

Some of these health and safety management systems must be paid for. An example of a paid-for health and safety management system is IS0 45001. This standard is recognised internationally and has been recently implemented after the previous health and safety management system, OHSAS 18001.

A freely available health and safety management system is HSG 65.  This is available completely free of charge from the HSE website.

What we Offer - Safety Audit

Better Safety provides audit assurance to all of our clients by way of regular health and safety audits.  This is not to be confused with a health and safety inspection. A health and safety inspection is typically a snapshot in time checklist type of review which can be done in around a day, or even less.

An audit is:

  • A detailed review of the health and safety management systems in your business.

  • Engagement with senior leadership on health and safety management.

  • Understanding what the critical health and safety risks are to your business and how you control them.

  • Review of policies, procedures, safe systems of work, guidance, and training.

  • A detailed report which outlines positive areas of safety management and areas to improve.

  • An active document that can be used by the business as evidence of compliance with relevant health and safety legislation.

All of our Health and Safety Audits are documented and confidential action plans/recommendations to improve the care provided to the client within a specified time period (normally within 7 days).
